The Opportunity
The appointee will contribute to the teaching of undergraduate biology courses in the Discipline of Biological and Chemical Sciences (Vanuatu Campus) offered by face-to-face, blended, or online modes and participate in lab supervisions, demonstrations, and tutorials. Duties include but are not restricted to running laboratory and tutorial classes, marking lab reports, assignments, and project reports; other administration tasks and also contributing towards outreach activities as assigned by the Head of School.
The appointee will be responsible for providing academic support for the undergraduate degree courses in Biology. They will undertake relevant administrative tasks as required by the School and University. A Teaching Assistant is expected to demonstrate excellent communication skills and the ability to network effectively and interact with a diverse range of students and staff.
Teaching Assistants are responsible for various tasks that contribute to the effective and efficient delivery of undergraduate courses. Duties will include but are not limited to: preparing and delivering tutorial classes, practical classes, student field excursions, marking assignments, practical and project reports and contributing towards the School’s outreach activities.

For appointment at Band 1, a Teaching Assistant is normally expected to have completed four years of tertiary study, including at the postgraduate level and a good first degree in Biology, and/or have equivalent qualifications and/or professional experience.
Professional experience may include teaching and research experience in Biology, experience outside tertiary education may include postgraduate certificate in tertiary teaching (PGCTT) as added advantage.
For appointment at Band 2, in addition to above, a Teaching Assistant is required to have a Master’s degree in Biology. Must be a citizen of one of the USP member countries.

The position is available for a term of 3 years and may be renewed by mutual agreement, subject to successful performance outcomes.
Salary Range
- Band 1: VUV 1,976,217.21 to VUV 2,308,821.87 per annum;
- Band 2: VUV 2,435,262.65 to VUV 2,700,018.81 per annum.
