The Opportunity
The University of the South Pacific has a vacancy for a Assistant Lecturer/Lecturer of Tourism and Hospitality to be located at the Laucala Campus in Suva, Fiji. Tourism is of major importance in the region and the University seeks to appoint a candidate with proven credentials in tourism and hospitality management, preferably with industry experience, who will provide academic leadership in the teaching and research programmes of the Discipline.
This section describes the context in which the incumbent is expected to operate describing the working relationships with both internal and external contacts. A description of the working environment and expected pressures the incumbent will encounter as well as the types of competencies he/she must have to perform the responsibilities of the position successfully.
The position will involve being proactive in the management, coordination, development, and delivery of our postgraduate programmes, and in the development and delivery of new and existing courses and programmes at the undergraduate level, across the field of tourism management, hospitality, and events.
The discipline has a very good relationship with the tourism and tourism hospitality sectors, and this position will be encouraged to advance relationships with specific areas, notably in relation to the events industry and the cruise ship industries.
The Person we See
For consideration at the Assistant Lecturer level, applicant(s) must have:
- a postgraduate degree (Masters/PhD) in Tourism/Hospitality or a relevant discipline and/or research experience and publication record; or
- In exceptional cases, to meet particular disciplinary requirements in line with international standards, a relevant postgraduate qualification or professional qualification with relevant industry or research experience.
- Other Minimum Qualification Requirements may be stipulated according to particular disciplinary requirements, following international standards; and
- Experience teaching at the tertiary level; the ability to coordinate and provide supervision for postgraduate students; contribute to the teaching of a range of tourism and hospitality courses; and experience in programme development and new course design;
- Knowledge of tourism and hospitality in the South Pacific;
- Experience in writing and teaching courses in distance and flexible learning;
- Experience in teaching and developing post-graduate courses in tourism and hospitality; and
- Industry / private sector experience.

- a PhD in Tourism or Hospitality, or relevant discipline with relevant tertiary teaching experience and/or research experience and publication record; or
- In exceptional cases, a Master’s degree or professional qualification with relevant teaching experience or relevant industry/professional experience or a significant research profile.
- Other Minimum Qualification Requirements may be stipulated according to particular disciplinary requirements, following international standards; and
- Experience teaching at the tertiary level; the ability to coordinate and provide supervision for postgraduate students; and to contribute to the teaching of a range of tourism and hospitality courses; and experience in programme development and new course design;
- Knowledge of tourism and hospitality in the South Pacific;
- Experience in writing and teaching courses in distance and flexible learning;
- Experience in teaching and developing post-graduate courses in tourism and hospitality; and
- Industry / private sector experience.
Preference will be given to applicants who have experience in teaching courses for flexible delivery and industry experience for both level of position.

The position is available for a term of five years and may be renewed by mutual agreement.
Salary Range
- Assistant Lecturer: FJ $61,538.15 to FJ $73,845.77 per annum
- Lecturer: FJ $78,200.18 to FJ $102,893.50 per annum
