The School

The successful candidate will be based in the School of Law and Social Sciences (SoLaSS) which houses the disciplines such as Law, Psychology, Sociology, History, Gender Studies, Development and International Affairs. Committed to bettering society in the Pacific, SoLaSS fosters excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement. It houses an engaging, collegial and supportive academic community particularly for early career academics.

The Opportunity

A Lecturer/Assistant Lecturer in Border Security will be responsible for coordinating postgraduate courses, and will deliver lectures, seminars, and tutorials, and engage with students on coursework and research related activities. The candidate must also have capacity to engage in research and engage with the community on issues relating to border security. The appointee must have research publications that meet the University’s Quality of Research criteria at the appropriate academic level. This appointment contributes to the growth of border security studies at SoLaSS.

The Person we Seek

To be considered for this position, applicants must have:

For the appointment at Assistant Lecturer Level;

  • a postgraduate degree (Masters/PhD) in Security Studies, Border Management, International Relations, or a related discipline ; or
  • in exceptional cases, to meet particular disciplinary requirements in line with international standards, a relevant postgraduate qualification or professional qualification with relevant industry or research experience.
  • Other Minimum Qualification Requirements may be stipulated according to particular disciplinary requirements, following international standards;
  • Demonstrate relevant professional experience in the field of Border Security or related sectors, preferably within Pacific region (USP member country).

 For the appointment at Lecturer Level;

  • a PhD in Security Studies, Border Management, International Relations, or a related discipline with relevant tertiary teaching and/or research experience; or
  • in exceptional cases, a Master’s degree or professional qualification with relevant teaching experience or relevant industry/professional experience or a significant research profile.
  • Other Minimum Qualification Requirements may be stipulated according to particular disciplinary requirements, following international standards;
  • Demonstrate relevant professional experience in the field of Border Security or related sectors, preferably within Pacific region (USP member country).

The position is available for a term of fixed term of five years and may be renewed by mutual agreement, subject to successful performance outcome and availability of funds.

Salary Range

  • FJ$61,538 to FJ$78,200 per annum
