LPT013 - Manager – Workforce Development Training Unit (WDTU)

The Opportunity

The appointee will report to the Director Pacific TAFE to oversee all aspects of Workforce Development Training Unit (WDTU) offerings and activities, ensure financial viability of all training courses/ programmes as well as managing recruitment of training resources. The successful incumbent will be required to develop and improve work flow processes assigned to courses and certifications. This includes approved business case, controlling expenditure, revenue collection and payment to facilitators and certificate award.

The incumbent will successfully manage training projects with international partners and lead and manage all WDTU marketing campaigns and activities as per marketing plan. The appointee will ensure due care of WDTU resources, participation in industry forums, work on network expansion and perform other duties assigned by the Director for business development.

Located at USP’s Laucala Campus, the Manager WDTU will be at the forefront of Pacific TAFE’s strategic expansion, responsible for the academic quality of programmes, profitability, and growth. The Manager will lead a team of professionals, collaborate with academic staff, industry partners, and development partners to enhance our course offerings, pursue new business opportunities, and meet financial targets.

The Manager must have core competencies of Leadership in operational, strategic and academic management in vocational education and training.

The Manager WDTU will assist the Director to meet the expectations and targets set by the Council and Senior Management Team (SMT) to lead and oversee WDTU functions for all USP Campuses but not limited to: 

  • planning and strategizing business initiatives
  • relevance of courses and training
  • development of new courses
  • expansion of market and regional reach of trainings
  • Awareness and response to market trends and new opportunities

The Person we Seek

To be considered for this position, applicants must have:

  • A Degree and postgraduate qualification in Business, Management and Administration or a relevant discipline gained from a combination of experience, training or professional accreditation and;
  • Five (5) years of administrative, business development work experience and proven management expertise, preferably in a tertiary institution (academic or vocational) or comparable multi-cultural public sector;
  • In exceptional cases and only with the prior endorsement of the Executive Director People and Workforce Strategy and upon approval from the Vice-Chancellor and President, a degree or professional qualification with significant relevant industry/professional experience may be considered;
  • Certificate IV in Training and assessment will be an added advantage;
  • Experience in managing staff and resources;
  • Develop and review professional, management or administrative policies;
  • Strong analytical and business skills to support strategic plan priorities and business intelligence;
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Assess problem situations to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions, and make sound recommendations that are change-oriented and/or resolve the problems;
  • Experience and appreciation of working with culturally diverse stakeholders. Working with regional stakeholders will be an advantage;
  • Self-motivated, confident, decisive and innovative;
  • Exhibits sound and accurate judgment and able to resolve conflict and negotiate positive outcomes;
  • Committed to excellence and change;

The position is available for a term of three years and may be renewed by mutual agreement. 

Salary Range

  • FJ $70,592.64 to FJ $86,479.02 per annum
