UU200 is a generic course offers an exploratory and interdisciplinary insight into ethics and the ethics of governance. It introduces students to ethical theories and philosophies (in terms of virtues, consequences and duties) and links these to structures of governance, in particular, self, political, corporate, and global governance. The theoretical framework is then used to delve into the fascinating and controversial field of applied ethics, ranging through the law, corporate and workplace ethics, social justice issues and controversial ethical dilemmas. Students will be encouraged to think critically, develop self-awareness and make responsible ethical decisions in personal, professional and applied contexts.

The Opportunity
The role of the Assistant Lecturer in Ethics and Governance (UU200) at the Solomon Islands Campus is expected to make contributions to the teaching efforts of the institution, particularly at undergraduate level and to carry out activities to develop his/her scholarly and professional expertise relevant to the profession or discipline.
The Assistant Lecturer must be proactive to exercise sound judgment to foster independence in our students, can work individually and in a team environment, is flexible and has the ability to work under pressure, and can assist in administrative tasks.
Specific Duties
Specific duties of an Assistant Lecturer may include:
- conduct tutorials through face-to-face or Blended or Online modes;
- Conduct practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, student field excursions, or studio sessions;
- Prepare and deliver lectures and seminars and coordinate a subject or course when skills and experience demonstrate this capacity;
- Conduct individual and/or collaborative research and develop a respectable publications record;
- Involve with professional activity;
- Consult with students;
- Mark assignments and exam scripts and assess;
- Produce teaching materials, with appropriate guidance from the course coordinator;
- Attend school and/or institution meetings and/or member of a limited number of committees;
The Person we Seek
To be considered for this position, applicants must expected to have:
- A postgraduate degree (Masters/PhD) in a relevant discipline; OR
- or in exceptional cases, to meet particular disciplinary requirements in line with international standards, a relevant postgraduate qualification with relevant industry or research experience ;
- Other Minimum Qualification Requirements may be stipulated according to particular disciplinary requirements, following international standards.
Desirable
- Masters (Thesis) or PhD in one of the social sciences or humanities
- Experience teaching ethics and governance at the tertiary level
- Some knowledge of Moodle and Zoom or other online teaching platforms

The position is available for a term of five (5) years and may be renewed by mutual agreement.
Salary Range
- Assistant Lecturer: SBD280,555 to SBD336,667 per annum.
