The Opportunity
The appointee will be responsible for the management of all the Engineering Laboratories under the Discipline of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. The person will be required to train Laboratory Technicians, support school staff, and supervise the day-to-day organization and running of the Electrical and Electronics laboratories. The person will be required to coordinate and setup practical classes for undergraduate students, provide technical assistance to postgraduate students and maintenance of EE equipment. The appointee will also be required to assist academic staff on technical matters and assist in research work and consultancy. He/She will also be required to monitor and maintain the laboratory OHS standards.
He/she should be highly experienced with all laboratory procedures in electrical and electronics engineering. Other duties include basic repair and maintenance of equipment used for teaching and research in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. He/ She should be familiar with procurement and basic Finance operations.
The position of Senior Technician in Electrical and Electronics Engineering is to assist the Discipline Coordinator of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
The incumbent will be required to work independently and unsupervised in getting the parts, equipment, resources for the labs, projects and get the fabrication on time. This will involve constantly liaising with the course coordinators, senior and other school technicians, using petty cash for buying parts and assisting fellow technicians. In addition, the job holder will be expected to assist in Post Graduate and academic research project work from time to time. He/She will be required to assist in compiling reports, updating inventory of parts, equipment, computers and parts, for all engineering lab facilities. Other services that the incumbent is expected to provide is assisting in preventive maintenance work in the lab.. He/She will be required to uphold the OHS policies of the school and the section.
To perform the tasks required, the appointee will need to:
(i) Apply a body of broad knowledge and experience to a varied range of tasks.
(ii) Apply a body of broad knowledge and experience to a limited range of more complex tasks.
(iii) Apply a body of broad knowledge and experience in the development of areas of specialist expertise including functions, policies, practices or subject matter.
(iv) Provide instruction or advice and decisions on rules and entitlements.
The Person we Seek
To be considered for this position, applicants must have:
- A degree and postgraduate qualification in Electrical and Electronics Engineering or other relevant qualification with extensive relevant experience and or education/training background.
- Three (3) years subsequent relevant work experience and management expertise in technical or administrative fields.
- Independently relate existing policy to work assignments, rethink the way a specific body of knowledge is applied in order to solve problems.
- Develop or redefine procedures and interpret policy which may impact beyond the immediate work area.
- Manage other staff in the performance of a function, involving their training and supervision combined with policy development responsibilities.

The position is available for a term of three (3) years and may be renewed by mutual agreement.
Salary Range
FJ$45,408.30 to FJ$55,627.11 per annum.
