The Opportunity
The University of the South Pacific (USP), one of only two regional universities in the world, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Payroll Manager to lead its centralised payroll function. Based at the Laucala Campus, this role oversees fortnightly payroll for all USP campuses across 12 Pacific Island countries, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in salary processing.
This is a leadership position requiring strong technical expertise, strategic thinking, and a commitment to continuous improvement. The Payroll Manager will play a pivotal role in safeguarding compliance with multi-jurisdictional regulations, driving process innovation, and ensuring timely and accurate payments that support staff satisfaction and institutional credibility.
The Person we Seek
To be considered for this position, applicants must have:
- A degree and a postgraduate qualification from a relevant discipline; and
- Five (5) years of relevant experience and proven management expertise;
- Knowledge of payroll management systems used in a large and complex organization;
- Knowledge and experience in handling multi-currency transactions;
- At least 10 years of proven record in payroll management and processing in a large and complex organization driving improvements;
- Strong knowledge of payroll systems and multi-currency transactions;
- Thorough understanding of taxation, superannuation, and compliance requirements across multiple jurisdictions;
- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience at middle-management level;
- Proven ability to innovate and implement process improvements;
- High IT literacy, including databases, MS Excel, MS Word, and general ledger/accounting software;
- Experience preparing annual plans, reports, and management documentation.

The position is available for a term of three (3) years and may be renewed by mutual agreement.
Salary Range
- FJ$81,690 to FJ$100,073 per annum.
