The School

The successful candidate will be based in the School of Law and Social Sciences (SoLaSS) which houses the disciplines of Law, Government, Development and International Affairs and Social Sciences. The School of Law and Social Sciences is resourced to pursue excellence in teaching and research. The School offers several undergraduate programs such as a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and Bachelor of Arts in Social Work, which are internationally accredited. We also offer targeted qualifications like the Postgraduate Diploma in Border Security, Professional Diploma in Legal Practice or Gender Studies. All our undergraduate programmes are available fully online as well as face-to-face, and with the Discipline of Law based at the Emalus Campus in Vanuatu and Social Sciences at the Laucala Campus in Fiji, you will be part of a dynamic network.

The Opportunity

SOLASS is seeking to appoint dedicated and experienced people to join the discipline as a Teaching Assistant for UU200. The appointee will contribute to teaching UU200 which is a generic course that offers exploratory and interdisciplinary insight into ethics and the ethics of governance. It introduces students to ethical theories and philosophies and links these to structures of governance, in particular, self, political, corporate, and global governance. The theoretical framework is then used to delve into the fascinating and controversial field of applied ethics, ranging through the law, corporate and workplace ethics, social justice issues and controversial ethical dilemmas.

The position will be based at Laucala Campus.

The Person we Seek

To be considered for this position, applicants must have:

  • For appointment at Band 1: Completed four years of tertiary study, including at the postgraduate level in one of the Social Sciences or Humanities,  or relevant discipline, and/or have equivalent qualifications and/or professional experience.
  • Professional experience may include teaching experience, experience in research, experience outside tertiary education, creative achievement, professional contribution, and/or contributions to technical achievement.
  • For appointment at Band 2: A Master’s degree in one of the Social Sciences or humanities,  or relevant discipline.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. A confident, competent and articulate person.
  • Team player and has the ability to network effectively and interact with a diverse range of students and staff.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Ability to work independent in a demanding environment.

The position is available for a term of 5 years and may be renewed by mutual agreement.

Salary Range

  • Band 1 FJ$40,050 to FJ$48,683 per annum
  • Band 2 FJ$50,385 to FJ$55,863 per annum
