Position Reference: LLB034 - Supervisor of Cleaners
The Opportunity
The University of the South Pacific invites suitably qualified applicants for the Supervisor of Cleaners position based at the University Library.
The appointee will be responsible for the overall cleanliness and presentation of the University Library and its environs and for the supervision of seven cleaning staff .
In order to effectively and efficiently manage the overall responsibility of the position, s/he must have experience in supervising a team of cleaners; arrange annual work timetable for cleaners; control stocks of cleaning materials including their issue and replacement; organise laundering of hand-towels; organise monthly sanitation and fumigation services; arrange and sort out back-up for cleaners who are absent due to - sick, annual, compassionate leave, etc.; keep track of Library maintenance needs - lights, ceiling & floor, window, elevator, etc.; prepare periodic reports for the University Librarian or Deputy University Librarian; introduce and train new staff to use cleaning equipment and materials; organise regular meetings; obtain quotations and liaise with vendors for cleaning products and equipment; lodge and sign-off all maintenance requests and liaise with E&I and suppliers/ vendors.
The Person We Seek
To be considered for this position, applicants must have:
- Certification related to cleaning; or
- Completion of Year 12 secondary school studies, with relevant work experience; or
- Equivalent relevant experience or combination of relevant experience and education/training;
- Proven experience in the area of cleaning;
- Ability to organise, supervise and motivate staff;
- Good interpersonal and communication skills;
- Knowledge of stock control and dealing with suppliers;
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and equipment and their use;
- Ability to work under minimal supervision;
- Very good understanding of Occupational Health and Safety issues; and
- Basic knowledge of IT application e.g. Email, MS Word and Excel. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in a library and multi-cultural environment.

The position is available for a term of three years and may be renewed by mutual agreement.
Salary: FJ$17,273 to FJ$28,949 per annum
