The Opportunity
The University of the South Pacific invites suitably qualified applicants for the Lecturer in Agricultural Extension position based at Samoa Campus.
The School of Agriculture, Geography, Environment, Ocean and Natural Sciences (SAGEONS) offered a Bachelor of Agriculture for the last 50 years in this University. The position is required to teach Agribusiness courses offered at 100, 200, 300 and 400 levels.
Nature and Scope
The appointee will coordinate and teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Agricultural Extension/Agricultural Economics in the Discipline of Agriculture and Food Technology (Samoa Campus). The appointee will be expected to contribute to development, teaching and implementation of existing Agricultural Extension/Agricultural Economics courses, supervise Postgraduate students at Master and PhD levels and engage with industry stakeholders. The candidate is expected to undertake research and contribute to research outputs within the broad areas of Agricultural Extension/Agricultural Economics issues of Pacific Island countries.

Specific Duties
Specific duties may include:
Teaching and associated duties as assigned by the Head of School such as;
- Conducting of lecturers, tutorials, and laboratories;
- Field activities (including residential field trip)
- Preparation and marking of laboratory and field activity reports and other assignments;
- Preparing marksheet, conducting and marking of topic tests and students project preparation
- Provide necessary support to students
- Prepare final exam and marking, supervision and submit final exam results
Research associated duties such as;
- Supervision of Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy students research;
- Publish research papers in high quality USP ranked journals;
- Attract research grants;
- Collaborate and engage with a range of key policy and scientific partners active in the Pacific region.
Outreach community services by support school promotional activities including;
- Enrollment drive;
- Roadshow;
- School visit;
- Open day and others.
The Person we Seek
To be considered for this position, applicants must have:
- A Doctor of Philosophy degree (PhD) in Agricultural Extension/Agricultural Economics with a Bachelor in Agriculture/Agricultural Economics;
- Good research publications in ranked journals;
- Relevant tertiary teaching experience (four years) at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
- Ability to teach a range of standard topics in Agricultural Extension/Agricultural Economics;
- Experience in supervising Master by research students to completion;
- Excellent English written and oral communication skills.
Desirable
* Willingness to undertake research as demonstrated by strong research publication records;
- Willingness to work as a member of a Pacific oriented team;
- Experience in supervising PhD students to completion;
- Formal tertiary teaching qualification;
- Evidence of securing external grants.
Essential – Knowledge/Experience
- The ideal candidate would have worked as a Lecturer in Agricultural Extension/Agricultural Economics;
- Has a minimum of 4 years teaching experience in relevant courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level;
- Have published scientific research in reputable international journals;
- Have experience in securing external grants;
- Have successfully supervised Master students to completion

The position is available for a term of five (5) years and may be renewed by mutual agreement, subject to successful performance outcome.
Salary Range
WST $136,593 to WST $179,727
