Position Number: LDC023 – Catering Assistant

The Opportunity

USP Commercial Operations is looking for skilled and experienced hospitality professional to work in the newly established Coffee Shop.

If you are skilled and experienced hospitality professional we have an opportunity for you. We are seeking an enthusiastic and hands on Catering Assistant to provide excellent customer service in our coffee shop. You will be involved in the taking of orders, serving food, making coffees, clearing and cleaning. You will be working within the agreed guidelines and standards, on behalf of USP Commercial Operations.


Major Duties:

  • To deliver the agreed standards and quality of food, and to implement recommendations from USP Commercial on service and quality through the Units Manager direction.
  • Operating the day to day operations in accordance with Legislative requirements and University Financial Regulations.
  • Be responsibility for supporting the Team Leader in the customer service and continual presentation of the outlets.
  • Dealing with customers, customer orders, delivery of foods and beverages and clearing away.
  • Cleaning the units, counters and equipment, washing up and assisting where requested within the units,
  • Handling of cash and other payment methods and balancing the shift income with the electronic reports. Reconciling the income for onward banking and reconciliation
  • Maintaining stock control and updating order requirements as required.
  • Working with the Team Leader to order supplies, in co-operation with designated staff to ensure sufficient purchases are available for resale.
  • Working with the Team Leader, under the direction of the Units Manager, on the day-to-day control procedures for food quality processes, Food Safety Management and the maintaining of records.
  • Provide recommendations for service, quality or product improvements.
  • Provide input into the product lines to develop the business to the Team Leader.
  • To deliver the advertising for food awareness in line with health initiatives.
  • To maintain the highest levels of customer service and product quality, ensuring food presentation and food service are to the highest quality and standards.
  • To support the Team Leader in running an effective and efficient food outlet.
  • To supply the Team Leader with relevant reports regarding the operations as requested.
  • Any other duties commensurate with grade.

The Person we Seek

To be considered for this position, applicants must have:

  • café or restaurant experience in a fast-moving environment
  • 2 years of relevant work in the hospitality sector;
  • personable with a passion for customer service;
  • experience with food “healthy options”;
  • a commitment to high standards of customer service and food quality
  • experience in working in a small team;
  • experience in stock control;
  • experience of processes for food safety compliance;
  • capability of innovating and developing business growth and quality improvement;
  • working experience in a complex organization.

The position is available for a fixed term of one (1) year.

Salary Range

FJ$17,273.77 to FJ$28,949.67 per annum
