The Opportunity

The University of the South Pacific (USP) is the premier tertiary institution in the Pacific region. The University is seeking to appoint a Director for PacLII in the School of Law & Social Sciences.

PacLII is an institute of the University of the South Pacific, based at the Emalus Campus in Vanuatu. Operating within the School of Law and Social Sciences, PacLII provides a comprehensive and integrated system of public legal information from 20 Pacific Island jurisdictions, that is relied upon by a broad range of stakeholders.

As a member of the Free Access to Law Movement, it is PacLII’s mission to make Pacific law accessible for free online, promoting transparency and strengthening the rule of law throughout the region.

The Director is responsible for driving PacLII’s strategic direction and for leading and overseeing the planning and implementation of activities and performance.

The Director reports to the Head of School of Law and Social Science. The role of Director is to advance PacLII’s mission, maintain its credibility and ensure its ongoing sustainability. This role demands strong communication abilities to effectively interact with a wide range of stakeholders, including Ministers, senior government officials, academics, regional organisations and funding partners.

Regular travel within the Pacific region will be required.

The Person We Seek

To be considered for this position, applicants must have:

  • Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant discipline.
  • 10 years of relevant management experience.

The position is available for a term of 3 years and may be renewed by mutual agreement

Salary Range

  • VUV5,846,318.25 to VUV7,104,172.38 per annum
