The Opportunity
The Department of Commercial Operations, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer is a self-operating funding section of the University, providing essential support services across its 13 member countries. The key business units under its umbrella include the Book Centre, Fitness Centre, Print and Catering facilities. These units support the University’s strategic plan initiatives, focusing on income generation through intelligent resource use and strengthening partnerships with students. The department aims to create a holistic student experience that empowers graduates to contribute to building cohesive, resilient, and sustainable societies. Additionally, it strengthens student support services to help students achieve their personal, professional and academic potential, and promotes student extracurricular activities, welfare, and wellbeing through its gym and other sporting facilities.
Fitness Instructors are health/fitness professionals who, using an individualized approach, assess, motivate, educate, and train clients regarding their health and fitness needs. They design safe and effective exercise programs, provide the guidance to help clients achieve their personal health/fitness goals, and respond appropriately in emergency situations. Recognizing their own area of expertise, fitness instructors refer clients to other healthcare professionals when appropriate.
The Fitness Instructor will supervise the Fitness Centre training floor, ensuring that all activities are monitored and within occupational, health and safety guidelines and that procedures and policies of the facility is adhered to. In doing so, the Fitness Instructor will always support the delivery of high-quality customer service and customer satisfaction throughout all Fitness Centre venues, and directly support both customer retention and increased gym membership.
Specific Duties
Within the facility, fitness instructors are expected to:
- To undertake pre-exercise screening and induct new members in the correct and safe use of the equipment;
- Provide exercise and fitness instruction, assessment and supervision duties at the USP Fitness Centre;
- Inspire and instruct our members to achieve their Fitness goals;
- Support the development and delivery of fitness programs;
- Responsible for group fitness classes;
- Assist in maintaining and improving the goals of the organization;
- Ensure the safety of clients during training sessions;
- Monitor hygiene standards and cleaning lists;
- Ensure maintenance issues are reported and actioned accordingly;
- Gym floor supervision;
- Creating fitness assessments and programs;
- Provide knowledgeable advice and information to clients; promoting our facilities in a professional and positive manner;
- Work within and adhere to USP policies and work towards KPS’s as required;
- Any other duties commiserate with grade and job level.
The Person we Seek
To be considered for this position, applicants must have:
- Completion of a diploma level qualification with one (1) year of relevant work-related experience; or
- Certificate level qualification with three (3) years post-certificate relevant work experience; or
- Completion of a post-trade certificate or advanced certificate and five (5) years of relevant experience and where required be a licensed professional; or
- An equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training.
Must be a citizen of one of the USP member countries.

The position is available for a term of three (3) years and may be renewed by mutual agreement.
Salary Range
FJ$26,029.68 to FJ$34,787.23 per annum.
